Heh... i am using the new Blogger version.... very cool, especially since it is in blue, my favourite colour... Different shades of blue.

Am going to do a backdated update now since i have not written anything for so long....

Wed 25 Jun
Went to Thanying Express and Al Dente for interviews with Corinne. The Thanying manager told me he wouldnt usually consider someone who is working 2 months but since he is in the same line as me, he would like to help me... blah blah blah... and i think he genuinely want to help me lah... but he's juz the assistant manager i guess... and Al Dente? The feeling i got from the manager was like, no, i wouldn't consider, but since you came, i should say something nice and tell her that i would not rule out all possibilities blah blah blah, even though she only wants to work for 2 months....

Friday 27 Jun
Zara sale starts today. heee...... I went with my sis to the huge Liat Towers outlet, but din buy anything... Had my first Coffee bean iceblended since i came back. There is no coffee bean in UK, i can't tell you how much i miss it. Also went to watch Matrix Reloaded with my sister at the IMAX theatre. The Imax theatre reminds me of the Omnimax Theatre at the Science Centre, except that the screen is infront of you, not above you. Matrix Reloaded, however, was not as good as the first. There were so many "huh?"s for me at the end of the show....

Saturday 28 Jun
So far, i have done like, i think 10 interviews and finally 1 calls me back!!! The manager at Island Cafe, Vijay, called me and offered me a part time job!!!! Yay!!!! Finally!!!! Even though it wasn't my first choice(Thanying Restaurant at Amara Hotel), i accepted immediately, cuz heck, considering the situation now, be grateful that you got a job!!! Plus, i'm so bored at home and so desperate for a job, seriously, i'll even consider working free. oh, and Corinne got the Al Dente one.

and finally Monday 30 Jun
1st day of work at Island Cafe... not too hectic, cuz apparently Mondays and Tuesdays are the quiet days, but i like the atmosphere there... and the chemistry between the boss and the crew and between the crew itself was really good. a very jokey atmosphere and everyone was very very nice. and even the staff meals were good... had bee hoon... good staff meals are always important!!! ;) Helps in motivating the staff!! And jiamin came to visit me!!! That's like so so so so unexpected. she juz arrived back from Penn yesterday and dropped by to say hi! I was like so shocked to see her!!!! She looks exactly the same, but i dunno, i think there is this glow around her... she juz look so sporty and tanned!!! like she belong to the beach or something. but i'm so happy she dropped by... This is the best thing about the whole day.... =)

You're a very gentle, kind, and caring individual.
You truely care about people and are generally

Did some supposedly pretty accurate test about my brain usage and this is what i got...

Your Brain Usage Profile

Auditory : 50%
Visual : 50%
Left : 61%
Right : 38%

Kng Suan, you are somewhat left-hemisphere dominant with a balanced preference for auditory and visual inputs. Because of your "centrist" tendencies, the distinctions between various types of brain usage are somewhat blurred.

Your tendency to be organized and logical and attend to details is reasonably well-established which should afford you success regardless of your chosen field of endeavor, unless it requires total spontaneity and ability to improvise, your weaker traits. However, you are far from rigid or overcontrolled. You possess a degree of individuality, perceptiveness, and trust in your intuition to function at much more sophisticated levels than most.

Having given sufficient attention to detail, you can readily perceive the larger aspects and implications of a situation or of learning. You are functional and practical, but can blend abstraction and theory into your framework readily.

The equivalence of your auditory and visual learning orientation gives you two equally effective sensory input systems, each with distinctive features. You can process both unidimensionally and multidimen- sionally with equal facility. When needed, you sequence material while at other times you "intake it all" and store it for processing later.

Your natural ability to use your senses is also synthesized in your way of learning. You can be reflective in your approach, absorbing material in a non-aggressive manner, and at other times voracious in seeking out stimulation and experience.

Overall you tend to be somewhat more critical of yourself than is necessary and avoid enjoying life too much because of a sense of duty. You feel somewhat constrained and tend to sometimes restrict your expressiveness. In any given situation, you will opt for the rational, and learning of almost any type should be easy for you. You might need certain ideas explained to you in order to fit them into your scheme of things, but you're at least open to that!

bo
You're Bo Peep! You're seductive and good at giving

Am very full from all the seafood i have eaten. Went to my sister's place for steamboat, and i ate and ate and ate. Sotong, Fish, Yong Tau Foo, Abalone, Veg, Bee Hoon, etc etc. Which explains my bloated stomach and hunched back while typing this.

Woke up super early today to reach Raffles City at 0830. The occasion? Not the Harry Potter book launch at 0701, but the start of the Mango Sale. Yes. You read me right. I was at Raffles City at 0840 to go to Mango. I wasn't the earliest cuz there were already ppl in the shop and HweiShan(who was at Suntec to collect her new HP book, which at time of writing, she has already finished) told me queues were already forming at Suntec City. At least when i arrived at Mango Raffles City, the clothes were all neatly stacked and there was no queues yet. Actually juz wanted to check out what's cheap and what's worth it before asking my mum along. ;) But by the time i left Mango at 11, i ended up with 3 bags(2 handbags; one for my sis and 1 tote) and a pair of slacks, and nothing is neat anymore. Went down to Ngee Ann with HweiShan after lunch to Kinokuniya and I'm glad i managed to resist going into Mango there.

Singaporeans are kiasu. I can't deny that. That's why Mango is so so so so so crowded and you have to wait 45 min for the waiting rooms and have tourists look through the closed exits to see what's the big hoo-ha. However, i also realised that Singaporeans are not alone. Not after i was in UK during the start of the winter sales. Next opened at 6am in the morning on the first day of sales, and when i arrived at 0630 with my mum, a lot of stuff was gone and Next was flooded. What can you say? At least there were people at the Raffles City Mango entrance to control the crowds, to prevent it from getting to the Chinese New Year Chinatown Street Market stage aka cannot move at all.

Oh. Nel finally gave me a ride yesterday. Pretty spacious vehicle. Nice seats, wider than usual. Pretty fast too. Drove me from Harborfront to Seng Kang in 30 minutes flat. The only downside is that the entire ride was in the tunnel, so i dun get to look down at the scenery, like what i always do when on the EWL.

Nel? Is the new North East Line that opened yesterday. So i decided to jump on the bandwagon and make a trip down to SengKang. pretty impressed with the Seng Kang station. There is even a condo built right on top of the station. Compass Heights. Imagine walking straight out of the station into your own condo. WAy cool. Compass Point is pretty nice too. I like all the boards around that explains certain things about history, spices, food, clothing etc etc.

Tired tired tired. Eyes half open...... *yawn*

Heh, am bored, so changed my blog name. Went supermarket shopping with Mummy today. Watched TV the whole night. So slow. I hate using 56kbps, esp when i have been using broadband back in UK.

Ooh, i have to recommend this site, it is my new favourite site, AirlineMeals.net, which is self-explanatory... Very cool. Am very proud to say that SIA still serve the most appetising food.

I came online shortly after breakfast today and this is what i see...

Beckham joins Real Madrid

United confirm £25m Beckham deal with Real

Man United sell Beckham to Real Madrid

Beckham snubs Barca to sign £20m Real deal

Beckham joins list of precious imports

United confirm Beckham sale to Real Madrid

Manchester United agrees transfer of David Beckham to Real Madrid

This is so obviously the story of the day. Can't you tell? Que Sera Sera. Let's see what Fergie does next.

Went to Island Cafe at Tangs for a job interview today. Seems pretty positive, but i still have to wait for the call from the manager.

And i finally had sushi!!! I've been saying i want to eat sushi since i came back, but today finally had it at Sakae Sushi after 9plus months. A lot of new stuff in Sakae now. They even have fruits and deserts on their conveyor belts. Tried the Fried Maki, which is acutally rice balls with Ebikko (fish roe) and crab meat, wrapped with seaweed, coated with tempura and then deep fried. Other than the fact that it is deep fried and hence quite oily, it is actually really really really nice.

Oh, this is what one of my friends said and i thought it was really funny...

"ORD stands for Operationally-Ready Date, but i dunno what i am ready for."

Dun worry if you dun find it funny. It's probably juz me.

I wrote my blog this afternoon... but it seems blogger was down, cuz i cannot find my last blog at all. Anyway, as i was saying

Yesterday, i went for my CT gathering. Really gotta hand it to Adeline to get most ppl to come, even the Sensational Six aka Sai 6. I dun think the guys changed a bit. They still look the same, probably juz more tan though. And Lester looks more beng than he already was. And the 15 of us talked like we have always liked each other and gotten along! No lah, shall not be so mean. Why am i not surprised that the first thing the guys talked about was NS? Anyway, yeah, that's what they did and the girls juz went from poise young ladies (ahem...) back to the immature JC girls. Remember the time we ran out of Lips cafe? (don't ask). Remember the times we stood around the escalator deciding what to do? Remember... there were a lot of remembers. Who got attached (Jinyu and Adeline and Puay)... Who didn't (the rest of us, duh.). And only Puay Hian and Hsien Xiong have passed their driving tests. I think Hsien Xiong even drives his own car now.

We had dinner at Cafe Cartel. Try the ribs. and then walked to Esplanade's Harry's Bar for some after dinner drinks (the SS wanted it) and to talk. Becki and I ordered a Long Island Ice Tea which after taking her first sip, Becki decided that she din like it, and so left the rest of the drink for me. I din finish it, cuz i had a wedding dinner to attend today, and i wasn't in a drinking mood.

Speaking of the wedding dinner, this must be like, one of the weirdest wedding dinner i have ever attended. it was at one of those hui4 guan3. I dunno how it is like, but there was like donations from the groom's parents to the huay kuan and other kinds of associations. and then the service was so crap, i even thought the staff forgot about the host's table! The weirdest part was, there was even entertainment during the dinner in the form of Teochew Opera!!! I mean, serious! I have never seen anything like it. I know that the groom's mum is a member of this Teochew Opera group, so she got her "sisters" to sing for the dinner i think, in gratitute for the donation to the Opera group. Then i told Michael (my bro-in-law) that the performers dress like mamasans. He agreed with me. The saving grace? The food was good. Traditional Teochew food.

If you ask me, this wedding dinner is not the couple's wedding dinner. Technically, it is, but it was a wedding dinner for them, but it was totally oragnised according to the groom's parents' instructions. I dun think the dinner was what the couple would have wanted. I hope.

In retrospect, i thought my sister and Michael were so lucky to have a banquet done totally according to what they want. They din want a big affair, so they had a small buffet lunch at Traders Hotel. They din want traditional table arrangements, so they had a gold colour theme, with modern flower arrangements instead of the traditional red colour theme. Gold table cloth for host's table, etc etc. They din want the toast, the Yam Seng part, and they didn't. They din want the wedding march, they chose their own music. And my parents and Michael's parents did not object to that.

At least now i know what kind of wedding dinner i dun want.

Went for a job interview at Marina Square today. Small little restuarant, but quite formal, napkins et al. Thought i left quite a good impression. And the bosses are 2 very nice and friendly ppl. But i also told them that i am going back to UK in September. *cross my fingers* and hope for the best lah.

Went to Esplanade again. The library is set to be the most underused library in the whole of Singapore. But it will also have the accolade of being the library with the best view. =) Wonderful views. Must bring camera the next time i go there. How cool is it that there is a roof terrace at the esplanade? Maybe not so much, but i am bo liao. You know me. ;)

I tore my contact lens juz now while cleaning it. And i juz changed contact lens last week!!!! Apparently i dun understand the instructions "Rub gently." How smart.

Tuesday, June 10, 2003

I like how i have eased back into my typical Singapore life. So easy, clearly shows that my life still belongs here afterall.

Went to Esplanade today to watch Fall of the House of Usher. Esplanade is huge. I mean, really huge. Like it a lot a lot. Though i have not gotten a chance to explore everything yet, cuz i was rushing for the show. Got the best view, cus the seat was right in the middle at the top circle.

I bought BreadTalk again. I dunno what is my fascination with BreadTalk, but i wanna try all the unusual breads they have. Not things like char siew bun or cheese stick. THings that i can get from any neighbourhood bakery. Mummy told me that BreadTalk earns much much more when i am around, cuz i keep buying stuff from there. I dun really disagree. ;)

I cut my hair, and i like my new hairstyle very much. =) Had a family gathering today, everyone came round to have dinner together.

I realised that before i left, i forgot to take a photo of the huge tree behind my house at Stag Hill. I got a photo in autumn and one in winter, but i forgot to take one when it was budding and now all green. Now i can't have a photo diary of the tree through the seasons. But nvm, at least i have watched the tree "grow up" (or maybe "grow old", who knows how long the tree has been there.)

Is it the home thing that is making me feel do lathagic? I din feel like doing much today. and yesterday, and the day before etc etc. The only place that i've been to since i am back is Citilink and Vic Theatre and UCC for ArtsFest Performance and Clementi to do some shopping for Mummy. Think I might hit town tmr. Will see.

I want to sleep and i shall do that now.

Wednesday, June 04, 2003

I miss Iona, wonder if she is awake yet. And I miss House 62. Room 14. and 11 and 18(both empty now) and 19(soon to be emptied). and the kitchen.

Hey. I'm home now. In Singapore. Did not sleep on the plane.Cuz they did show Daredevil after all, and Chicago, and Gangs of New York and The Hours. There are like 30 movie channels now. SIA din disappoint me after all. =) When i slept at 2am, Singapore time, yesterday, i have not slept for 34 hours.

On a very superficial note, i saw a really cute shuai4 ge1 on the flight. For once, i get a really good looking flight steward. =) Immaculate service too. In fact, i think he offered better service than the stewardesses whose smiles seemed to have disappeared. Maybe the service is the same, but it's different without the smile. Maybe it's juz me. He's called Ryan. =)

Yes, I am that superficial. ;) 4.51pm, Singapore time.
