I sure hope i am making the right decisions. I've handed in my placement preference forms today and i am so confused. I have not had much hotel experience, but working in a hotel helps me with that. But There is also the consultancy choice. How often can you get a chance to work in a consultancy? It is like one of the rare chances that presents itself. No doubts you have to work for it, but the chances and the exposure may be far greater than juz working for a hotel.

Argh. I dunno what i want. Headache.

Today was a really really Cool day, cuz we went to Apha Flight Catering Company at Gatwick!!! Technically, not in Gatwick, but 10 minutes from there. But an inflight catering kitchen nonetheless. It is the world's biggest independent inflight catering company. We were first brought to the loading area where you see the high lift trucks and how food is loaded onto them. Then you get to the washing up area where you see all the trays, cutlery etc etc being washed up. Interesting fact no 1.: The cabin crew never clear up the trays that they collect back from you. They juz put the entire tray into the trolley and the entire trolley comes off the plane to the catering company for wash up.

Then we got to the equipment area where they keep all the plates, cutlery, trolleys, tray. Interesting fact no. 2: You know there is the entree plate and and appetiser and desserts dish yeah? The entree dish is called a dog dish and the appetiser dish is called, you got it, a puppy dish.

Then got to the kitchen and food production area, didn't get to see much, cuz it was the afternoon, not peak time... nothing really fantastic, cuz the kitchen we went to did not cater for the bigger companies like BA or Lufthansa. And so all the meals juz look so so and they are all done using the cook chill or cook freeze method. Interesting fact no. 3: All food must reach the plane at 8C and below and security checked and fastened. The ovens on the plane are at 250C, no higher no less, so sometimes, the crew might forget about it when heating up the food, hence resulting in burnt food.

And that was that. We got some refreshements too. Thankfully not airplane food. But it was such a refreshing tour, u know, looking at things like this, things you never get to see as a civilian. So damn cool. Had so much fun today.

Someone sitting behind me is looking at porn online.

Today is Freshers FaYRE, so had to get down to the union to set up a booth at 10am this morn. Wasn't very iinteresting. I knew that already, cuz there would not be many, if any at all, freshers, as most of the new students in Surrey are direct intakers. So was pretty surprised, cuz there was after all, a fresher!!!!!! Jan and I (ex-freshers) were very happy, cuz that means that there is still at least a fresher for the year! Yeah. This guy called Jonathan. Computing and Communications guy. Going to bring him for a "Tesco Awareness Tour" later, cuz he has not figured out where is Teso yet. Supermarket!!

I wonder if i make sense to people sometimes. Cuz i dun think i really make sense here. =)

You know how sometimes so things juz creep up on you all of a sudden? Last week, we had really really good weather. Clear skies, sunshine, warm air, but not too hot. It was the best weather that you can have, great for basking in the sun on the heath, lunch on the grass. But good things dun always last, isn't it? Cuz Autumn decided that it has been in the shadow for too long, it's time for her to make her entrance. And So she did. In Great style. On Monday. With dark clouds, strong winds and skin piercing chill. And the never ending drizzle. And falling leaves. She has made her say. That summer is officially over. No more long flowy skirts, spaghetti tops, or suntans. it's now shawls, hats and gloves. and of course the cold biting air.

But i want summer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What happens when you have too questions? You get confused. You're not sure what you want anymore. I thought i got it sorted but now i dunno. I need to find my way.

I fell asleep early yesterday night. For the whole weekend i have not done much again, except to think about things. I read only one chapter. I also juz realise that i have been talking about bucking up in 2 blogs last week. But what's the point of saying that all the time if you dun do anything about it yeah?

Sigh. I need to answer my own questions soon.

You remember i was telling you that my computer was restarting itself even when i was shutting down? I now know why it is like that already!!!!!! *sheepish look* You know with Windows XP when you log off, they give you a list of options whether you want to log off, restart, shut down, hibernate or standby? Yeah, so when i log off, the selected option was restart all the time, which was why it was restarting itself when i wanna log off!!! So now i know!!!! =)

And i finally finished my CV!!!! *round of applause* And thanx to Shan for helping me proof read and select the photo even though they all look the same! =) All of us have been so busy and stressed up by our placement options and CV! But i'm glad i got it over and done with! Yeah! =) Now to print them out on MOnday and send them into the placement locker.

If only i have not slept so late today, if only i have not woke up so late today, if only i have caught the 1158 bus to school, then i would have reached school in time before the registry close, then i would have gotten by confirmation of registration letter, then i could have gone to the bank to open my bank account. Then i would not be sitting here already.

I really need to buck up now. I am feeling the pressure already. And guess what? Yesterday, i was on the internet in my room for the first time on my laptop (never used my laptop to access the internet while in UK), and i dunno how come i am so suay, i kenna the Blaster Worm virus!!!! I got the patch to remove the virus already, but everytime i try to shut down, it will restart! How come?? Why must they do this to me????

Today is a really beautiful day! There are no clouds in the sky, the sky is blue and the sun is shining!!!! YEAH!!! So i wore my sunniest blue skirt (which is my only blue skirt anyway) and went to school for a one hour lesson, my only lesson of the day. But that was a very interesting lesson, cuz i found out about what other ppl thought about me. Most frequently used adjective? Friendly. Others include Happy, smiles a lot. =) And the bad include does not make herself known, controlling. I think they are all very true. =)

Anyways, went to town to get daddy's polo tee changed cuz the M was too large for him. 4 months after buying it, and they still change it for you willingly. That's what so cool about shopping in UK. Refunds or exchages in almost every shop. Found some good bargains in Boots. Had lunch, Prawn Salad from MnS, but forgot to take fork, so had to eat with the cover. then walked up high street and looked at everything and anything. =) That was all i did till now. And i am going home now.

2 Singaporean students were murdered in Sydney. So poor thing. Why target students?

Anyway, in other news, a crocodile was caught in Woodlands Town Park yesterday. Third crocodile caught in 2 months, and before this, only five crocodiles have been caught in the wild and brought to the Singapore Zoo in its 29-year history. A sudden influx of crocodiles?? INteresting thought. I dun mind crocodiles. As long as it's not snakes, or tarentulas (sp).

u know that drained feeling after u have 3 straight lectures consecutively for 5 hours? When u have only an hour's break in between? That's how i feel right now. And today was pretty hot, but the lecture theatre was so cold (and juz last week, the lecture theatre was boiling). And i still got so much things to do!!! I think i have not gotten back into the studying mood yet , you know? Really have to start working now... can't fool around. Sigh.

My inner child is ten years old today

My inner child is ten years old!

The adult world is pretty irrelevant to me. Whether
I'm off on my bicycle (or pony) exploring, lost
in a good book, or giggling with my best
friend, I live in a world apart, one full of
adventure and wonder and other stuff adults
don't understand.

How Old is Your Inner Child?
brought to you by Quizilla

hmm... feeling a little stoned now. Went to London again. Went down to Hampstead to have crepes. Which is damn sinful, but damn nice too. =) Then went to Finchley Road to go to O2 Shopping Centre but got sidetracked my Waitrose. Did i tell u i love Waitrose? I really like the salads in there. So went inside there and walked around looking at bo liao stuff. Then went down to O2 which has a huge sainsbury. I love supermarkets.

Met friends and went down to Chinatown for dinner. Then had Haagen Dazs for desserts. They have decided that i am not eating enough and insisted that i have 3 scoops of ice cream. So i had lemon and raspberry sorbet and strawberry ice cream. Was going to take train back to Guildford then realised that I willl have to wait half hour at the bus stop for the next bus, so decided to go to my friend's apartment at Tower Hill to stay the night. And the apartment was so damn cool and posh and with lots of style. I'm amazed. And very impressed and generally juz awe-struck. Along the way to her place, we saw that crazy one by the name of David Blaine in his stupid glass box at Tower Bridge. Crazy man.

Started drinking vodka with coke. But the moment i started, i started turning red and had spots around my whole body. Thanx god i had 2 medic students with me who decided that i should not drink anymore. Heh, i guess i can now say i cannot drink too much liquor based on medical advice(Med students not = doctors, but what the heck). Which is a good thing, cuz i dun feel too well and hot all over. Which was why i went to the loo to puke out my dinner later in the night. Something's so obviously wrong with the dinner i think. Not the vodka that we had. Then had noodles and became hyper. Could not sleep after that. Which is why i am typing this now. Despite the puking, was great fun. Tormenting other ppl and bring pampered.

Why must they change my timetable? How can they do this to me? Why must they take away my only free day in the week??? How can they?????

Hmph.

Thursday, September 11, 2003

Bloody cold day. I am going home... but looks like i might be missing my bus.

Hmm... i did say i'll leave MOnday to tomorrow... But today's thursday already, so no point writing about Monday's stuff, yeah?

Went down to London yesterday afternoon. Was going to meet some friends to celebrate Mid Autumn Festival. Anyway, got treated to a muffin and a cafe latte at Nero, then walked down to Leicester Square for dinner. Had Beef Horfun. The beef was okay, but the horfun was a bit hard. Not so nice. But the food isn't the main point today. Cuz had great fun meeting up with new ppl and new friends and having a laugh. =) And bullying other people. =) And being crazy.

Monday, September 08, 2003

Hmm.... a lot of things to say today.... And yes i am now in UK already. Came back on Saturday... will fill in the details in a while...
And anyways,

Saturday...
Reached the airport at 745 today. Checked in, then the woman told me that my luggage is 4kg overweight, and that they will charge me for it, which will mean like, $300+ in excess baggage charge. So i tried to repack, but then those inflexible people at Change Airport wouldn't burge. So in the end, my sis went to the duty officier in charge of this flight to 'charm' him with her words (she's good with that) into letting me check in my other bag, eventually he did, but by then the flight has already closed (8.45am), so i had to bring my luggage to the gate to check it in. And i was rushing like hell, cuz i'm told to hurry (even though the plane has been rescheduled to 9.45). Which is stupid, in retrospect, cuz why am i hurrying, cuz i will be seating in the waiting area, waiting, and i hate that. I did reach the gate with 10 minutes to spare, and no one stopped me from bring in 3 bags(laptop, trolley, back pack). So i din care. I din ask to check the bag in or anything like that. Which made me feel stupid again, cuz i could have juz brought the bag into the plane, rather than panicking at check in. I forgot to get cigarettes for Johnny.

There was a hydraulic fault with the plane. So they had to change planes, and they would be ferrying us from the gate to a 'remote parking area' to board the plane 'shortly'. But the 'shortly' was like 30 minutes at least, and by then Cynthia and Becki (who were on the same flight) were starving. But got the see the airport from the apron, different view, which was kind of cool. Eventually stepped into the plane ard 10.15 and realised that my seat, 35K was next to a wall, which kind of defeats the purpose of a window seat right? They din tell me that 35K, while technically, is a window seat, is not next to a window. So i ended up having to fight for the window with that girl in front, who insists on having the window shield down. told the stewardess to tell that girl to put the window shield up cuz i get restless if the shield is down, which is entirely not true, but i dun care. Plane departed at 10.57am, 2 hours after the original departure time of 9am.

Got no eye candy this time round on the plane. I think the standard of the food dropped. Not much taste in the egg noodles, and the scallops were too hard. Good thing was the Magnum ice cream for desserts. Watched Bruce Almighty, Nemo, The Quiet American and Moulin Rouge. Bruce Almighty is good. Very Funny. Cabin crew was feeding us sandwiches, Ritz Bits, Toblerone towards the end of the flight. Which was stupid when they could have done that b4 breakfast, when everyone was starving and needed a snack. But that's juz me. Sometimes i complain too much, i think.

Lawrence fetched us at the airport, and we waited for Derrick, whose flight was only 1.5 hours after ours, after that delay. Reached Hazel Farm at 10plus at night after going to Tesco. My room is small. Carpet is stained with white patches. Kitchen is small, things all over the table. This is my new home for at least the next 4 months. What to do? might as well get used to it. =)

Sunday...
Woke up at 4.30 in the morning. Did some packing, then went back to sleep and then woke up again at 8.30. Went down to Ikea at Croydon. We din really know where it was, so we juz drove to these 2 huge chimneys (based on lawrence's intuition that Ikea is nearby), then only realised on arriving that is the Ikea, blue and yellow building, juz like the one in Singapore. =) Really cool, u know. The 2 huge chimneys are like landmarks, cuz that was like a tallest thing in the area. And the Ikea is so much bigger than the one in Singapore. Huge warehouse. Bought pillow, cups, hangers, lamp etc... 9 items for juz £16... not too bad. Wanted to go to the Warehouse size Next and Boots next door. But din have time. Next stop was Wing Yip to get our Chinese stuff. Rice, Soy Sauce, Tofu, instant noodles. Something the size of Tesco, and all Asian food. Amazing.

Went back to Heathrow again. This time to pick up YC. Then went to Wagamama for dinner. Chilli Chicken Ramen. Went home. Unpack somemore. Went to sleep.

I'll leave Monday to tomorrow.

Packing my bags now. I think i have told you before that i dun like packing. Cuz it always means that we're going to move on. Which also means the end of something. In this case, it means the end of my holidays. That i am going back to school. To reality, in a certain sense. Cuz studying is afterall my day job. But it also means i am leaving behind Singapore, my family, my friends.

I've checked in for my flight already. SIN - LHR SQ 318 0900 - 1530 I also chose my seat. 35K. I want to seat at the numbers b4 30. Cuz those are the Raffles and First Class seats. =) I have also checked out the movies that they r showing on TV. And This is the list...

The Matrix Reloaded
Bruce Almighty
The Italian Job
Daddy Day Care
Whale Rider
The In-Laws
Confidence
People I Know
The Quiet American
Shine

Which isn't too bad, cuz i only watched the Matrix. And the others are not too bad either. But against my better judgement, i went to check out the October movies too. Which are as follows...

Sigh, i accept my fate in watching good movies on SIA. If it's meant to be, it's meant to be. =)

Monday, September 01, 2003

Feels kind of weird this morning, cuz i din have to go to work. So i could really take my time to read the papers and watch the US Open in the morning, go to AuntyUC (NTUC) in the morning. Which is quite nice, actually, cuz can juz R n R, you know? Then came back, watched the afternoon screening of Judging Amy, then fell asleep while watching it. Woke up at 4pm, had lunch. Checked through my documents, and thought now i might come up to say Hi. Which is actually quite a nice luxurious way to end the day. =)
