I wrote my blog this afternoon... but it seems blogger was down, cuz i cannot find my last blog at all. Anyway, as i was saying
Yesterday, i went for my CT gathering. Really gotta hand it to Adeline to get most ppl to come, even the Sensational Six aka Sai 6. I dun think the guys changed a bit. They still look the same, probably juz more tan though. And Lester looks more beng than he already was. And the 15 of us talked like we have always liked each other and gotten along! No lah, shall not be so mean. Why am i not surprised that the first thing the guys talked about was NS? Anyway, yeah, that's what they did and the girls juz went from poise young ladies (ahem...) back to the immature JC girls. Remember the time we ran out of Lips cafe? (don't ask). Remember the times we stood around the escalator deciding what to do? Remember... there were a lot of remembers. Who got attached (Jinyu and Adeline and Puay)... Who didn't (the rest of us, duh.). And only Puay Hian and Hsien Xiong have passed their driving tests. I think Hsien Xiong even drives his own car now.
We had dinner at Cafe Cartel. Try the ribs. and then walked to Esplanade's Harry's Bar for some after dinner drinks (the SS wanted it) and to talk. Becki and I ordered a Long Island Ice Tea which after taking her first sip, Becki decided that she din like it, and so left the rest of the drink for me. I din finish it, cuz i had a wedding dinner to attend today, and i wasn't in a drinking mood.
Speaking of the wedding dinner, this must be like, one of the weirdest wedding dinner i have ever attended. it was at one of those hui4 guan3. I dunno how it is like, but there was like donations from the groom's parents to the huay kuan and other kinds of associations. and then the service was so crap, i even thought the staff forgot about the host's table! The weirdest part was, there was even entertainment during the dinner in the form of Teochew Opera!!! I mean, serious! I have never seen anything like it. I know that the groom's mum is a member of this Teochew Opera group, so she got her "sisters" to sing for the dinner i think, in gratitute for the donation to the Opera group. Then i told Michael (my bro-in-law) that the performers dress like mamasans. He agreed with me. The saving grace? The food was good. Traditional Teochew food.
If you ask me, this wedding dinner is not the couple's wedding dinner. Technically, it is, but it was a wedding dinner for them, but it was totally oragnised according to the groom's parents' instructions. I dun think the dinner was what the couple would have wanted. I hope.
In retrospect, i thought my sister and Michael were so lucky to have a banquet done totally according to what they want. They din want a big affair, so they had a small buffet lunch at Traders Hotel. They din want traditional table arrangements, so they had a gold colour theme, with modern flower arrangements instead of the traditional red colour theme. Gold table cloth for host's table, etc etc. They din want the toast, the Yam Seng part, and they didn't. They din want the wedding march, they chose their own music. And my parents and Michael's parents did not object to that.
At least now i know what kind of wedding dinner i dun want.
