Oh, in case u haven't noticed, i changed blog skin! Looks like my previous one before the strawberries... But this one allows paragraphs! Yay!

Some totally useless facts i got off Joyce's blog about why mosquitoes love some people more than others!

- Mosquitoes are attracted to dark clothing, fragrance and scents. (So always wear white and make sure you don't drown yourself in perfume like SOME PEOPLE like to do.)

-Eating vitamin B1 keeps the moskies away. (Who knew that vit B is the new vit C??)

- Eating bananas however, attract them.

- Contrary to my belief, moskies do NOT prefer certain human blood types over the rest, but they do prefer certain animals over others.

- Mosquitoes are attracted to carbon dioxide, which means that people with higher metabolic rate get bitten more cuz they give out more CO2. Ditto for bigger people, eg. adults generally and pregnant women

- Genetics account for 85% of mosky bites. (Blame your parents.)

- Moskies target people with a lot of cholestrol, steroids on the skin surface or give out excess acid. (Basically, unhealthy people.)

Considering the amount of bananas i ate, no wonder i have all these mosquito bite scars on my legs! :(

Juz returned from Lake District and 5 hours cramped up in a car. Now got butt pain.

Lake District was beautiful, but what i remember most about Lake District is not the lakes, but actually the sheep grazing in the grasslands, plains and priaires!! And it was so cool seeing the mother sheep and lambs... it's juz so, i dunno. You can juz feel the bond between them kind of thing you know... even though we are juz driving past. Didn't have much time though. Only managed to go to Lake Windermere, but then it is so crowded it kind of deflates u a little.

Blackpool is stuck in the 70s or 80s. THat is the first feeling i get when we reach the area, u know like tacky shop signs, wooden food stalls, outdated decor?? Yeah. That's was my first thought when we drove along the coast. Full of cheap beachfront hotels proclaiming cheap rooms, lifts, en-suites. Blackpool was the first seaside resort to be developed in the 70s when people started travelling as they became more affluent. But it seemed to have stuck there. Never developed. But it probably have the highest desity of amusement centres. Probably more than 10 along the whole coastal stretch. Had fun trying to collect little tinkets off the 2p machines... u know the kind that u put 2p and try to recoup it back through falling piles of 2p? Yeah, those kind.

But the trip was too short for such a long distance we have driven. Wished we had more time.

Juz returned from Oxford and had 2 really great fun days... you know when u can just be spontaneous and just decide where u wanna go only in the morning and u can be really slack and wake up whenever u feel like it? That's the kind of holiday i had for the past 2 days and it is juz pure pleasure... :)

Went to Oxford, and then wondered the halls and cloisters of Magdalen and Christ Church and Oohed and Ahhed at the structures of the dining halls and the beautiful gardens and juz sat around and watch the world go by.

Then Thursday morning, we bought return tickets to Stratford-upon-Avon. And for a short while, we did consider getting single tickets to Manchester, in the spirit of spontaneity, but then i did have other plans for the Easter weekend, so Stratford upon Avon it shall be then. ;) Bought tickets for the 3 Shakespeare Town Houses, and of the 3, only 1 is really related to Shakespeare. Ha, nice garden in one of them though, and we didn't get the chance to go to the third house. And I even managed to fall asleep outside Shakespeare's House while stoning and watching the world go by. Dun ask me how i managed to do that... :)

Next trip: Lake District!

Exam Timetable

16th May 2005 1630h - Business Finance
23rd May 2005 0900h - Organisational Behaviour II
25th May 2005 0900h - Tourism Marketing
27th May 2005 1330h - Service Sector Marketing

Gripes about this years' timetable... HOW COME I FINISH ON THE LAST DAY OF SEMESTER???? Normally the 2nd years will finish before the 1st years... so how come we have to be the last ones in the whole School of Management to finish our exams? I mean, really! Our exam is even the last on the exam timetable! And everyone else might be playing already while we are slogging over our exam! And this last module is only taken by students who went for placement last year, ie. 79 of us, so while the rest of the 200++ is already playing by Wednesday/Thurdays, the 79 of us would still be studying away... Which also means that I would not have much time to play before i go back to Singapore!!! Juz one weekend and maybe slightly more. And then i also have to do my packing for summer storage... and how would u expect me to do it if i still got exams...???

But complain so much also bo pian right??

Was looking through the team profiles for The Amazing Race 8. I know one thing for sure, I am going to be so freaking pissed off if Rob and Amber wins the Race. They've won so much money already, i wish they will juz step aside and let other people win some.

The names were pretty interesting too. Lynn and Alex are 2 guys, Meredith and Gretchen are retired couple. And Susan and Patick looks like 2 girls, but actually are mother and son. Patick looks so androgynous. and then Ron is an Iraq war POW (?!)... Kelly is Miss South Carolina. These people arent really people from the street, are they? I thought that's what reality shows are about.

But then again, i love to watch an All-Stars TAR. Bring back Rob and Brennan!!!

Just read my blog achieve from 2 years ago, and realised that 2 years ago this day, it was my Management Day with Grace at Lakeside Restaurant!!! Seems so so so long ago, remembered all the stress and trauma and late nights we have to go through just to prepare for this day, the first time ever i called myself a manager. A manager of Lakeside Restaurant.

Funnily enough, 2 years later, I am back in my suit again, this time for the CHME Conference...

Image hosted by Photobucket.com
This photo is taken 2 years ago on 11th March, at Grace's room.

I realised that even when i type www.surrey.ac.uk/libraru , i still get to the Surrey University Library Website... did the system cater for typo errors??

In other thoughts, had fun today not attending lessons and instead played dress up (ie. career woman suits and killer pointed toe shoes!) and attended the CHME (Council for Hospitality Management Education) 1st National Student Conference on the Image of Hospitality Higher Education. Quite a bit of debate, and loads of fun listening to all the various views...!

Story no. 2: The Person Who Pushed Her Share of the Project to her Friend.

Wednesday, A send me an email with what she has written so far about her section, asking for my advice because she did not know what to include as there was too much information. So I read through what she have written then replied, writing down lead questions for her to follow up on.

Friday, A's best friend, B told me that she was going to go through A's part with her before sending it to me... Apparently, what happened since then was, B wanted to check A's part before sending it to me for final editing... A was reluctant to do so, to which B demanded the reason. Turned out that A has not done anything since i replied her email. Nothing at all. Nada. Why? Cuz she was arranging her Visa to go to Cyprus with her boyfriend over Easter. Yes. At the expense of the coursework due this Friday.

B was pissed off, cuz this was supposed to be a group work and everyone was supposed to do their parts. The only excuse A came up with was because he did not know what to write. B, being A's best friend, decided to do it on her behalf, cuz it was after all, a case study on the hotel B worked in during her placement.

And so, B worked on the parts A was supposed to do, all the way from Friday till Sunday 7am, through menstral cramps. While A slept.

Thank god A had such a good friend in B.

The End.

Story no. 1: The Story of the Person who Took Bowl.

Woman was cooking her hor fun in soup in the kitchen while Flatmate was washing up his plates. Culprit then walked in with singlet, track pants, socks and ah beng slippers, holding a white bowl which looks familiar. Woman stares at the bowl and then at Culprit while Culprit puts bowl with some thing curri-y into microwave, seemingly unaware of Woman's eyes boring into his braided long hair.

Woman then looks at the microwave to check that it is indeed her bowl. Once suspicion is confirmed, Woman opened her mouth and said," Is that bowl u r using mine?"

Culprit looks guilty and then stammered," er, i forgot my bowl so i borrowed yours."

Woman thought in her head: yeah right. I know whose bowl is whose and ur bowl is in the sink, so how could u have forgot your bowl?

Culprit then said," do u need your bowl now?"

"No, not really, as long as i get it back clean," woman replied.

Culprit eventually put his microwaved hot food into another clean (!) plate and washed bowl.

The End

I can't stand my flatmates... They are such spoilt brats who do not know how to clean up after themselves after eating.... stupid idiots. Left pizza boxes and trash all over the kitchen floor and dirty tables all over the kitchen table. There is such a thing called rubbish bins!!!

And Some Idiot has taken my bowl...!!! I am usually quite okay if u use my things, as long as they are returned washed and clean... but I cannot stand it when they juz use the plate and leave it on the table dirty!!! Bastards... I'd like to think that i am generally a tolerant person, but they are really pushing it. I want my bowl back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Got an email from Straits Times Interactive few weeks back:

We thank you for your interest in the website and would like to inform you about a major change coming to STI in March: After 10 years of giving ST news reports out for free online, STI will begin charging readers to access it.

A subscription will cost S$72 for six months (S$12 a month), or S$120 for a year (S$10 a month). A one-month subscription will cost S$15.

Why are we doing this?

We believe that we have a good and valuable product that users will want to pay for. It's also not a tenable business model to charge for the print edition of the newspaper and not for its online edition.

===================

What a load of ********. A tenable business model? Then how come i dun see Times or Guardian or the NY Times or USA today charging... So if these MAJOR and they are indeed Major newspapers are not charging for the online model, does that are operating an untenable business model? Maybe it's time i change my address link from Straits Times to the New Straits Times instead.
